Why Are We Surprised?
In light of what is happening around our country, and around our world, what Jesus said below needs to be in the front of our mind:
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.” – Jesus. John 15:18-22
Jesus’ first word in ministry was “repent”. Either you hate that word or you love it because you know how beautiful repentance is.
We don’t know it all; sooner or later God is going to disagree with my, with our, with everyone’s personal opinions.
Let’s not assume that Jesus is going to agree with what’s popular at that moment in human history.
What if God always agreed with what was popular in culture?
Im so thankful Jesus doesn’t always agree with me or with what I think is right; if God always agreed with what I thought was right or wrong then I would be God. And thank God I’m not God.
Sooner or later I’m going to have to give up my will, and my opinions for His will.
Humility asks, “Am I wrong; do I need to change?” Pride says, “I’m right and don’t challenge me or even try to bring up the other side.”
Again, if there is a God, (and i do believe there is) sooner or later God’s will and my will are going to be on two different pages, and then I have a choice to make, do I surrender my will/opinions to His will, or do I always think I’m right and just hope God becomes more “enlightened” like me (it’s not going to happen).
Don’t mistake God’s Love for mankind as His approval of mankind’s lifestyle!
There’s no prejudices with Jesus.
Jesus doesn’t tell just one group of people to repent He tells everyone to repent; and I’m so thankful He does. He tell us to repent of our pride, self-righteousness, alcoholism, religion, sexual sin, etc. Repentance is not just for one group of people it’s for everyone; and you can either embrace repentance or run from it. But the moment you repent and embrace Jesus, and Jesus will for your life, will be the moment you begin to experience “…life and life more abundantly!” – John 10:10
P.S. In no way am I saying that giving up your will, your life, for Jesus life is easy, in fact Jesus said, “whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” You must loose your life for Jesus sake.
Whatever your identity is, whatever your known for, whatever is important to you; is it better than Jesus? Are you willing to give it up for Jesus? We are all called to “pick up our cross, and follow Jesus” we all have to die to ourselves, it’s not going to be easy, and it’s not going to be pain free. But the moment you give up your life, your identity, your causes, whatever end of the spectrum it may be, is the moment you find your life in Jesus.
“As many as receive Jesus to them He gave the right to be called children of God”
Jesus is worth it.
Jesus is everything.
“Our hearts our restless until they rest in you, O God”
